My Side, South Side: Plein Air Café & Eatery
I know I had already highlighted a Chicago South side food establishment. I was reading the most recent edition of the Redeye when I read that Plein Air Café & Eatery was open today, Monday, March 24th. And me being me, I just had to put on my tennis shoes to go for a walk. Located at 5751 S. Woodlawn Avenue, Plein Air Café is housed in the same building with the Seminary Co-op Bookstore in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the campus of University of Chicago.
I have never been to France; but the French inspired café transports you to another country as soon as you open up the door and step inside. The refreshing white décor reminds me of everything soft and pure and fresh. Even though white is the primary color that decorates the café, warmth fills the establishment.
I walked up to the counter and ordered the Spinach Royal Pie and the Chocolate Oat Lace Cookie.
The Chocolate Lace Cookie is a cookie where dark chocolate is sandwiched between 2 sweet, rich, and buttery oatmeal lace cookies. The cookie was deliscrumptious. I know deliscrumptious is not a word. I needed a word to be a mashup of delicious and scrumptious to describe this cookie.
If you are not familiar with royal pies, well let me tell you, you need to get familiar with them. At first glance you would think that the pie is a typical pot pie. Trust me when I say that the royal pie is truly royalty. The buttery crust melts in your mouth. The combination of cheddar, spinach, and egg allows this savory pie to upgrade your breakfast to first class.
Plein Air Café also offers and assortment of hot and cold beverages, pastries, breakfast dishes, French open faced sandwiches, Royal Pies, along with a host of other items. Check out Plein Air Café’s website for more information.
I would like to say, WELCOME to my side, the South side, Plein Air Cafe 🙂
