A Trip to bellyQ
Even though Chicago’s Restaurant Week ended February 6th, I decided to check out one the restaurants that participated in what I would call a foodie holiday. I took a trip to bellyQ located in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood at 1400 W. Randolph Street.
The modern Asian barbecue restaurant delivers an array of complex flavors that even the pickiest palette will appreciate. For starters, I began with the Thai Style Fried Chicken and the Chickpea Hush Puppies. The Thai Style Fried Chicken was moist on the inside and fried to perfection outside. The Chickpea Hush Puppies are not the typical doughy cornmeal balls. The horseradish sauce that accompanies the hush puppies is the star of the Chickpea Hush Puppies.
The highlight of the night for my tastebuds was the Tea Smoked Ducked served with Chinese Broccoli and Steamed Buns. The fat that encased the duck breast simply made each piece of meat melt in my mouth. The subtle sweet smoky flavor from the duck dripped to the broccoli providing additional seasoning to the vegetables.
If you want the full experience, feel free to order dessert. The Chocolate Malt Soft Serve was quite interesting. It isn’t a fave. When I go back, I will try the Vietnamese Cinnamon Donuts. Yep, I will be going back.
